Teething

While it seems way too early, I think Lola may be starting to teethe.  I looked it up, and apparently most babies get their first tooth between 4 and 7 months, so it is possible.

Our first sign was that Lola has been super drooly lately - soaking her shirt and ours.  Then she started sucking her thumb (not super effectively, but she's getting better) and has shown interest in teething toys.

Then yesterday she went on a nursing strike.  I had no idea what that was until I googled "baby suddenly refusing to nurse".  I was off work yesterday, so Lola was being nursed rather than bottle fed.  She barely ate - according to my app (yes, I track everything she does), she normally nurses about 2-2.5 hours a day, but yesterday she only nursed for 1.  Plus, she would cry and scream after eating for just a few minutes and would refuse to eat any more.  She has always been a great eater, so I was very confused.  I thought maybe she was just getting used to bottles, but the nanny said she only ate 8 ounces today (normally she eats 15), so that's not the issue.  I was concerned and starting researching, and I learned about nursing strikes.  One of the common causes is teething, so I think that's what's happening.  At least there is an explanation, and supposedly most strikes end within a few days.

Luckily we go to the doctor on Monday for Lola's 4-month appointment, so we'll see what she says.  Although I certainly hope the strike is over by then.

  1. Sounds about right. I don't remember what age they can start having baby tylenol but I remember thinking when we started that we had waited too long! She's a healthy, and nice and chubby, baby though - M went through days of less nursing too but it never hurt her in the long run. Maybe take advantage and pump the extra? You've done such an awesome job of feeding her and growing her that this short dip won't hurt!
