Trip to DC

Two weekends ago, Thomas and I traveled to Washington DC to visit Paige, Courtney, and their new son Conrad.  He was born on February 21, exactly 8 weeks after Thomas.  I'm so excited that we have babies the same age!  It will be fun to see them grow up together.  Now if only they would move back to Atlanta...

Joseph and Lola dropped us off at the airport Friday morning.  We had an easy airport experience - I got through security quickly, while wearing Thomas, and I was happy to find a "lactation pod" where I could nurse Thomas in private before the flight.  Thomas was perfect on the flight.  He started fussing when we were taxiing, so I nursed him.  He fell asleep and slept the entire flight - it was incredible.  He was still sleeping when we landed, so I stayed seated for a while and let other people get off the plane, but he kept sleeping, even as I walked off the plane.  He only woke after I set him on the floor to put on my carrier.

We spent the weekend hanging out with our babies, walking around their neighborhood, and eating at various restaurants.  There is a cool place called Union Market near their house, and we went there for lunch on Friday and ice cream on Saturday.  I love that their neighborhood is so walkable (like all of DC).  We didn't have to get in the car once - they have so many restaurants within walking distance.  Kelly came to visit with us on Saturday, and it was so great to see her and catch up.  They are moving to Raleigh in June and are very busy preparing for that.  Dave, Natalie, and Ryan came in to see us briefly, but then left so that we could have quiet adult (and baby) time.

Conrad is super adorable and seems like a perfect baby.  I babysat Friday afternoon so that Paige and Courtney could get massages for their anniversary, and he slept for 2 of the 2.5 hours they were gone.  And when he was awake, he was content.  I barely heard him cry all weekend.  I'm sure he has his moments, like any baby, but he seemed great to me!  Paige and Courtney also seem to be adjusting to parenthood very well.  Thomas was mostly his normal self, just a little fussier than usual due to being in a new place.

Paige dropped us off at the airport Sunday afternoon.  Our trip home was not as great - we were delayed for over two hours, and Thomas cried most of the flight.  Luckily the man next to me had a baby at home, so he was very understanding and helpful.  I just felt bad for poor Thomas.  Joseph and Lola picked us up, and they filled me in on their weekend of camping.  I will have to get photos from Joseph to share of their trip.

It was a great visit with great friends, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again when they visit Atlanta in June!
