This past weekend was Mother's Day, and we had a great weekend - beautiful weather and fun, relaxing family activities.
We started out the weekend with Friday happy hour for our playgroup at the Varners' house. Old playgroup members the Chapmans were in town visiting from New York, and it was great to see them (they used to live around the corner from us). They added a third child, Grady, in January, just about a week after Thomas was born. I failed to take any photos, likely because Joseph had to work late (until 4 am - insane) so I was watching both kids solo. I kept the kids up a bit late so we could stay and play longer, which resulted in a somewhat difficult bedtime.
Saturday morning we went to Hannah's fifth birthday party. I can't believe she's five! She is such a sweet little girl, and we all had a lot of fun at her party. We went home and took naps, and then spent the rest of the afternoon around the house. We had dinner at Tomatillos - it was a lovely night, so we sat outside and enjoyed the weather.
Sunday was Mother's Day, and this was my first Mother's Day where we didn't have a niece's first communion to celebrate (Becca's in 2014 and Rachel's in 2015). While it was nice going to Cumming and spending the day with family the past two years, it was also nice to just stay home and not have anything to do. I told Joseph my one wish was to sleep in, so other than waking to nurse Thomas, I slept until 9 am. It was great! And when I woke up, Joseph and the kids were at the grocery store, so I got to shower and get ready all by myself. What a gift!
Joseph bought me flowers and Lola made me a card. The schools also had the kids make presents - Lola made me a bookmark and Thomas made me a footprint painting. They are both very sweet.
Joseph had bought supplies for a picnic, so he packed everything up and we walked to the park around 11. We had a nice picnic at the playground. Lola was quite intent on eating and didn't even want to play until she had eaten. We ran into Kalee, Mark, and Ryn there, so the girls played for a bit. The weather was beautiful again, especially in the shade, so we hung out for a long time and headed home around 1 for naps. We ended the day by going to Lowe's to pick up some new flowers and tomatoes to plant, and then had dinner at home.
Thomas was unfortunately sick most of the weekend. He woke up Friday with a goopy eye and was pretty congested. I picked him up early from school Friday and let him sleep a lot that afternoon. He seemed okay most of the weekend - a little subdued and definitely congested, but not overly fussy. He had a low fever, so we gave him Tylenol and used the NoseFrida frequently (luckily he likes it). We thought he was better on Monday, but the school called and I had to pick him up early again. He took a nice, long nap and then seemed back to his happy self. Tuesday he no longer had a fever and the congestion had mostly cleared, so I'm crossing my fingers he's all better. It was pretty rough - he would wake every hour or so during the night, probably because he couldn't breathe well. He also didn't want to nurse on my right side if I held him with his left side down, so I think he may have had an ear infection. Having a sick baby is just so sad :( But I got some great snuggles and naps with him!
