Our baby girl is one week old today! The first week has definitely been a whirlwind.
Lola was born at 8:39am on Wednesday, August 7. We moved from our labor & delivery room (#2) to our postpartum room (#650) around 10 a.m. We remained there until 7 p.m. on Thursday. While there, we welcomed both sets of our parents as visitors, and also Jessica M., who happened to be nearby for work and stopped by. We tried to catch up on our rest and spent a lot of time bonding with Lola. I was pretty sore and worn out from the delivery, so it was nice to relax and recover.
Because Lola was born 30 hours after my water broke, she had to have a complete blood count test at 24 hours old to check for signs of infection. Her initial jaundice test showed high bilirubin levels, so she had to have her blood checked for that as well. Luckily both tests returned good results, so we were able to be discharged after only one night in the hospital. Everyone at AMC was super nice, but the room was tiny and we were itching to get home to our own bed.
Both the Breuers and Trapolds spent the night with us on Thursday, and we had a nice family dinner. We called it an early night due to our exhaustion. Unfortunately Lola had an awful second night and did not let us get too much sleep.
Friday morning we took Lola to her first pediatrician's appointment. The hospital pediatrician wanted us to see our regular pediatrician as soon as possible to check her jaundice. Our pediatrician said she looked fine jaundice-wise, and everything else was good as well. She lost a bit of weight and was down to 6 pounds 14 ounces, but it's normal to lose a little weight after birth. Her weight is at 35.88% and her height (20.3 inches) is at 83.88%, so it looks like we'll have a tall, skinny girl! Her head circumference is 13.5 inches, which is 51.46% - nice and average.
Since then we've been hanging out at home, slowly adjusting. My parents are staying for about three weeks, which is a HUGE help. They've done all of the cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping so that Joseph and I can focus on the baby. I don't know how I'd be getting by without them.
We've had a few visitors so far. Julie, Jake, and their girls came down Sunday to meet their new niece/cousin. It was so cute to see the girls with Lola. Sunday night my friends Kat and Sarah came to visit. Plus a few neighbors have dropped by. It's nice to have the monotony broken up by friends and family.
Joseph went back to work today, which was very sad. We loved having him around for a week. Since he was gone, Lola and I went on our first social outing with a mom's group my friends have. We went to a park in Buckhead to feed the ducks (although feeding was apparently prohibited). Then we went to lunch at Verde. It was nice to get out of the house and see some friends. Lola did very well - she slept in the sling at the park, and she slept in her car seat at the restaurant (after a quick feeding - my first time in public!).

She is SO CUTE. I loved meeting her! And yeah, that first week was exhausting. First month really. It changes fast, and unexpectedly, though. Can't wait to see more pictures and see her again!
