Lola - 3 Weeks

Lola is now three weeks old.  We're still learning and adjusting, which I'm guessing will be the case for the next few months :)

We've made a few more outings, which adds some excitement to the days and is also good for getting Lola used to going out.  Last weekend was the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival, so we walked over to the park Saturday morning and checked out the artists and other vendors.  Monday my mom and I took Lola to Target to pick up a few things, and since she was behaving, we decided to have lunch at Willy's too.  Then Tuesday we went to lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe and shopping at the mall.

Unfortunately Lola had her first sick visit on Monday.  Last Friday her left eye started having a lot of discharge, so much that her eye would stick together.  It kept coming back no matter how often we wiped her eye.  When it hadn't gone away by Monday, we decided to take her to the doctor.  We met with Dr. Bataille for the first time, and he was great - super sweet and gentle with Lola.  He said that since the discharge hadn't gone away after a few days, it was likely a bacterial infection.  He gave us an oral antibiotic to give her for 10 days.  We're only on the third day of treatment now and it's already clearing up, so that's a huge relief.

At the doctor's visit, Lola was weighed and measured.  She is now 8 pounds 10 ounces and 22 inches long.  She's growing like a weed!

About two weeks ago, we found out that our nanny quit.  We had interviewed nannies with Stephanie and Erik (our friends with whom we're doing a nanny share) in June and had selected a nanny then.  Unfortunately she had some family issues arise and is no longer able to work for us.  This meant that we had to start the nanny search again from scratch, and do it all while caring for infants.  Definitely not ideal!  Luckily we got a lot of replies to our ad quickly, and we interviewed six over the past week.  We liked three of the candidates a lot, so it was a tough decision, but we finally chose a nanny and are waiting to hear if she accepts our offer.  Hopefully it works out so that we can stop our search.

My parents left today, after spending the past three weeks with us.  They had been with us since the day Lola was born, and I don't know what we would have done without them.  They took care of cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping, plus tasks that I would never have done, like washing and ironing all of my curtains!  It was nice to be able to recover and spend all of my time with Lola without having to worry about housework.  And of course it was great for Lola to spend so much time with her grandparents.  We will miss them and it will be an adjustment for me to be on my own during the day, but we are looking forward to settling in as a family of three.  Luckily I have an awesome group of friends, and they will be bringing me meals every few days for the next few weeks (as they have been for a week now), so at least I don't have to worry about cooking just yet.

  • Sick visit at the doctor
  • Medicine taking :(
