For Joseph's first Father's Day, we started with a family breakfast. I had planned to make breakfast and let Joseph sleep in, but he got up around 7 when Lola and I came downstairs after her morning feeding. So he ended up making breakfast while we all hung out in the kitchen.
For lunch, I prepared a picnic in the park. I had been talking about having a picnic in the park since we moved to our house (which is basically across the street from Grant Park), but we had yet to do it, so I figured this was the perfect time. I packed up a bunch of finger foods and we walked over to the park for an early lunch after Lola's morning nap.
It was a beautiful day, and since it was only about 10:30 in the morning, it wasn't too hot yet. We sat on the ground and snacked, and Lola ate some food too. Surprisingly she didn't go crawling away - I really thought she'd explore on the grass more. She just sat contentedly on the blanket and played with some grass or food containers. It was wonderful to spend some relaxing family time together. We went for a short walk afterwards and then headed home.
Joseph's request for Father's Day was that he get to work on whatever house projects he wanted, so I watched Lola the rest of the day and let him do his thing. So I would say it was a great Father's Day!
