Spruce Pine Visit

We went to Spruce Pine to visit Joseph's parents over Memorial Day weekend.  We hadn't been since Memorial Day 2012, so the visit was long overdue.

We headed up Saturday morning.  It was our first road trip with Lola, so I was a little nervous.  The drive is about 4.5 hours without any stops, and the longest Lola had been in the car before was about an hour.  But she did pretty well.  When we stopped for breakfast, I got in the backseat with her and that helped, since I was able to play with her and distract her when she got fussy.

We got there around 1 and were so happy to see Meemaw and Poppy!  Lola needed to nap, so we put her down while we ate lunch.  Then we all headed out to Lowes to get them a new faucet for their kitchen - Joseph was insistent on replacing it since it has leaked since they've lived at the house.  After our shopping trip, we went to dinner at a local Mexican restaurant.  Then home to bed.

Sunday morning we got up and went to church.  Diane and Joe wanted to show Lola off to all of their friends.  I was nervous about how she'd behave, and she did get fussy about 5 minutes into the service.  But I went back to the "cry room" and nursed her, and then she was fine.  She seemed to enjoy meeting everyone.

That afternoon we went on a hike.  The area where they live is surrounded by mountains and state parks - it's beautiful.  We climbed up to the top of a mountain and had spectacular views.

It was so nice to spend some time with Joseph's parents.  We don't see them too often, and when we do, it's usually at a large family gathering, so it was great to have one-on-one time with them.  I'm also impressed with how well Lola did traveling.  After the horrible time she had sleeping in Florida, I was worried, but she slept great.  And she did well in the car for the most part - a few crying fits, but mostly calm or sleeping.  She also loved exploring Meemaw and Poppy's house and playing with all the new "toys".

We're looking forward to seeing Joe and Diane again for our beach trip in July!
