Weekend Update - October 12

I really want to get better about posting regularly.  It will make sure I don't forget to write about things, and it will also force me to organize my photos on a regular basis, which is something I've been terrible about.  My friend Shaun is great about updating his blog, and he said he just makes sure to go through his photos every Sunday and write a post (well, I think his wife does the writing).  So I'm going to try to copy him and post a "weekend update" each week.  Our weekdays are usually pretty boring, so all the fun stuff happens on the weekends.

This weekend was a great one filled with lots of family activities.  Joseph's birthday was Friday (happy birthday, honey!), and we "celebrated" by going to a pizza party at Lola's daycare.  It was a nice social event for the families that send their kids to the school, and it was nice to get to know some of Lola's classmate's parents.  We also enjoyed seeing Lola play with the other kids, although while trying to keep up with the older kids, she fell a few times.  Still working on that balance.

On Saturday, Georgia Tech played Duke.  We headed to campus around 11 and hung out at the tailgate for a while.  Lola had fun running around in the grass and playing with the other kids.  The game was at 12:30, which is Lola's naptime, so we weren't sure how she would do.  She did pretty well the first quarter, but then she got really fussy and I could tell she was tired.  I put her in the Ergo and walked/bounced her around the concourse until she finally fell asleep.  I walked back to the stands right at halftime, and I was looking forward to being able to pay attention to some of the game since Lola was sleeping.  But unfortunately the game got suspended due to lightning right as the second half was about to start.  We decided to leave because we didn't know how long it would be.  We caught the rest of the game on TV (which resumed after a 77-minute delay), and GT lost.  To Duke.  It was terrible.

That evening our neighbor Bill was hosting a documentary screening at a church in our neighborhood.  He was a state representative in Florida, and he had worked on the documentary while in office.  It was about Fort Mose, the first legally sanctioned African American community in the US.  We went to the screening, but Lola would not keep quiet, so she and I played outside while Joseph watched the film (it was only about 30 minutes long).  Afterwards, we had dinner at our favorite local Mexican restaurant, El Mexicano.

Sunday we headed out early to go to Kinsey Family Farm to get some pumpkins.  It was a beautiful farm - it was originally started as a Christmas tree farm.  They had a lot of different pumpkins to choose from, plus some animals to look at and a hayride.  The weather turned bad on the hayride and started raining, so the ride got cut short and we decided to leave.  We were up near Joseph's sister's house, so we met up with them for lunch before going home.  It was great to see them!
