Weekend Update - October 19

This weekend was much needed after a long and stressful week for both Joseph and me.  Unfortunately it looks like the next week or two will be stressful as well, but we tried to put our work lives on hold and enjoy the weekend.

Friday night we stayed in and had a relaxing evening and early bedtime.  Saturday morning Joseph got up with Lola and took her and Lucy for a long walk, so I got to sleep in until 9 am, which is probably the latest I've slept since Lola was born.  It was glorious!  After I got up and ready, Lola and I went to Publix for our weekly grocery run.  The rest of the day was pretty relaxed - chores around the house and some yard work outside (by which I mean Joseph did the yard work and Lola and I watched/played).

Saturday night LaKeisha came over to babysit Lola so that Joseph and I could go to a dinner party at his coworker Hillary's house.  The other couple that was invited couldn't make it, so it was just us, Hillary, and her partner Diana.  They have a beautiful, old (but wonderfully renovated) Victorian in Oakhurst, which they moved into last year.  They made us a delicious dinner, and we had a wonderful time getting to know each other and drinking wine.  The time flew by - before we knew it, it was midnight and we realized we should head home to relieve LK!

Today we were supposed to go to Mark's first birthday party, but unfortunately he got sick, so the party was canceled (hope you're feeling better, buddy!).  Since we had a completely free day (a rarity), we decided to head to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens this morning.  Little did we know that today was Goblins in the Garden, a Halloween event for kids.  So it was unexpectedly crowded, but not too bad, especially since we got there early.  They had crafts for the kids, pony rides, and a train.  Lola's a bit too young for crafts, but we did get her a mini pumpkin and put eyes on it.  We also tried to get her to take a pony ride, but she freaked out and would not sit on the pony.  She wouldn't even pet it.  She was, however, fascinated by the train whenever it went by, so I guess we should have opted for the train ride over the pony ride.  The gardens had two special exhibits going on: Scarecrows in the Garden, where people/groups from around the city create artistic scarecrows, and Imaginary Worlds, where there are huge sculptures made out of plants (we saw this last summer when I was pregnant with Lola).  So there was a lot to look at, and Lola enjoyed running around.  The weather was absolutely perfect.
