December Catch-Up

I suppose I should write about our month so far since a newborn will be joining us any day now (!!!), and I doubt I'll have much time for blogging for a little while.  Most of the last few weeks have been pretty boring - just working and spending spare time getting things ready for the baby.  So I'll just go over the highlights.

The week after Thanksgiving was pretty low-key, which was much needed after a jam-packed week with family.  I went to my friend Kelsey's annual white elephant gift swap that Monday and enjoyed spending some time with girlfriends.

The weekend of December 5 was the baby shower for my best friend Paige, who is expecting a boy (her first child) in February.  I am beyond excited that we are having babies at the same time, and I was happy to celebrate with her.  She lives in DC, but hopefully we will visit each other often and force our boys to be best friends :)

We picked out our Christmas tree that weekend and spent the next week slowly putting up Christmas decorations.  This will be the first year we are actually at our house for Christmas, so we wanted to make sure it looked nice.  My parents, brother, and brother-in-law will be joining us for the holidays.

The following week, Lola's teacher texted me on Wednesday saying she was complaining about her tummy.  I didn't think much of it because she often says her tummy hurts when nothing is really wrong, but she ended up vomiting all over me at dinner that night.  Yuck.  Luckily this is only the second time that she's ever thrown up.  She seemed fine afterward, but she threw up again in bed that night.  The next morning she seemed fine, but I had to keep her home due to daycare rules.  We hung out at home and met up with our doula for lunch (and Joseph joined us) to discuss the upcoming birth.

The weekend of December 12 was the Winter Wonderland that goes on every year during the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes.  This is where we visit Santa.  Lola hated him last year, so we had been talking a lot about it and she seemed excited about seeing Santa when we left our house.  We played at the wonderland for a while, and when it was finally our turn to see Santa, she would not go near him.  Joseph put her in his lap and she just screamed and screamed.  Poor girl.  Maybe next year she'll like him.  I purchased a lovely photo of the experience - see below.

We followed up our Santa visit with dinner at Doc Chey's.  Then when we got home, Joseph said he was feeling sick.  He ended up being sick all night and all day Sunday.  He looked miserable - he must have caught what Lola had but got it much, much worse.  He seemed almost back to normal by Monday night, although still exhausted.

I visited my old coworker Shaun's new baby Drew on Monday.  He is adorable!  It was nice to hold a tiny little baby again, although I forgot how small they really are (and he's actually a big baby).  I had a nice lunch chatting with Shaun and his wife Katie.  Then Tuesday I met up with a big group of old coworkers for Andrew's going away party.  It was fun seeing everyone - I can't believe it's been a year and a half since I left PowerPlan.

This weekend has been super productive.  Joseph and I both seem to be in the nesting phase and are working on organizing things around the house and getting things ready for the baby.  Yesterday morning I went to a prenatal yoga class, which felt great.  Then I organized all of Lola's toys and separated out the baby toys and put them in the nursery.  Now the den/playroom looks a lot better.  I also put up a few more Christmas decorations and cleared out the drawers in our guest room for my parents to use.  Joseph spent several hours deep cleaning both cars and then installing the baby's car seat base.   He also reorganized his tool closet.  Today we did our normal errands - grocery shopping, yard work, laundry, etc.  Lola didn't seem to mind just playing by herself around the house.  We did enjoy a family watching of the Steelers/Broncos game before bed.  The Steelers won!

Now we will just anxiously await Baby Boy Breuer!  I'm going to work a bit tomorrow and Tuesday to wrap some things up, and my parents arrive Tuesday night.  I'm hoping the baby decides to join us on Wednesday or Thursday so that he can celebrate Christmas with us!  I'll be 39 weeks on Tuesday, and my water broke with Lola at exactly 39 weeks, so it's quite possibly this baby will be early as well.
