Colorado Trip

At the end of June, we went on the annual Breuer trip, this time to Colorado.  It was wonderful!  It was a little hectic for us since we were in the midst of a move, but it was a welcome break from the chaos at home.

We flew out to Denver Saturday morning and drove to Breckenridge, where we had rented a great 8-bedroom house to fit all 20 Breuers (and Neals).  We spent the whole week there, flying back the following Saturday, just in time to spend July 4 at home.

About two weeks before the trip, we learned that Ed had been diagnosed with colon cancer.  It was very sad, scary news, and it meant that the Texas Breuers would likely miss our trip.  Fortunately Jenny arranged for the kids to fly to Denver on their own so they could still vacation with us, while Ed stayed home to have surgery.  We were happy to have the kids with us, and we heard that the surgery went well.  Then Ed and Jenny surprised us on Wednesday by flying up!  We couldn't believe they traveled so soon after the surgery, but Ed seemed to be doing well and they really wanted to see everyone.  We were so happy to see them.

Since I'm two months behind on posting this, I forget all the details of what exactly we did each day, but here are some highlights, and then I'll post a bunch of photos:

  • We hiked to Lilypad Lake.  Lola walked about half the time, and then had an uncle or cousin carry her :)
  • I had wonderful massage one morning, and Thomas enjoyed cuddling with Aunt Tati while I was gone.
  • We walked into town from our house.  Breckenridge is a really cute little town.
  • Joseph, Philip, and Tatiana took the big kids to do a big hike and were gone all day.  The views looked amazing!
  • We took the gondolas up to the top of the mountain, where there was still a big pile of snow.
  • We biked the Vail Pass.  We rented bikes, and they drove us up to the top.  Then we got to ride downhill for 16 miles.  It was great!  Lola had a little bike that attached to the back of Joseph's bike, and she enjoyed pedaling.  Thomas stayed home Tati, Tom, and Ed.
  • Joseph and I took the kids to an indoor pool.  Lola had a blast, and Thomas enjoyed his first time in a pool.
  • The rest of the time we just hung out at the house and enjoyed time with our family!
