Thomas - 7 Months

Poor second child Thomas - I haven't written an update since he was 4 months old!  Thomas is now 7.5 months.  Here's an update on our little guy.

Health
We had to cancel his six-month appointment since it was during the move, so we haven't had an update on his weight or height since his four-month appointment.  But he is definitely getting big!  I've scheduled an appointment with a pediatrician here for the end of August, so it will effectively be his eight-month appointment even though he'll be getting his six-month shots.  I found a pediatrician near our house that has great reviews, so I'm happy about that.

Thomas has been generally healthy.  He gets a runny nose or diaper rash every now and then, but that's normal.  His cradle cap has completely gone away and been replaced by the finest, blondest hair.

Milestones
The stubborn boy is still not rolling over.  He just doesn't like being on his tummy very much, so I don't think he cares to roll over.  He has started rolling onto his side when sleeping, so maybe that means he's on his way.

However, Thomas is sitting up very well.  Not sure exactly when he started - probably a month ago.  We can set him down on the floor or in the pack-n-play and he'll play contentedly and not fall over.

Teething
Thomas has two little teeth!  Again, not sure exactly when they came in (I promise I'm paying attention to him), but sometime over the past two weeks.  They are the bottom front teeth.  We had a few incidents of biting while nursing, but I think he's figured out how to nurse without hurting me.

Sleeping
I mentioned in my four-month post that Thomas had hit the sleep regression and went from waking once a night to multiple times a night.  Well, that still continues, and it's making me very exhausted.  I know he probably doesn't need to eat, but I still nurse him almost every time just to get him back to sleep.  Sometimes that doesn't even work and he just wants to be awake or just cries, so we don't really know what to do.  Nursing him is probably making things worse, since now he expects to wake and eat every 1-2 hours.  I'm working on just consoling him back to sleep if he wakes before midnight.  I want him to sleep at least 3-5 hours before eating again.  Joseph and I have discussed different strategies, so hopefully we will figure out a way to sleep train him soon.  I'm not sure how much more of this I can take.  Although last night he only woke twice (at 12 and 3), and I felt great this morning!

Eating
We have introduced solids to Thomas, giving him crackers, puffs, purees, and little bits of finger food.  He hasn't seemed interested in any of it, other than liking to chew on the crackers.  He's starting to show some interest, so hopefully he'll be eating more soon (which might help with the sleeping).  But for now, he's getting all his nutrition from my breast milk.  I'm currently nursing him in the morning, then he gets three six-ounce bottles at school, and then I nurse him before bed.  And then again however many times he wakes in the night :)

Personality
Thomas is still a super happy baby.  His teachers at school always tell me how happy and smiley he is.  He is very relaxed and lets us take him with us wherever we're going.  This means he isn't really on a schedule - he naps when we're out either in the car seat of the carrier.  He laughs a ton now, especially when Lola is playing with him.  He definitely loves her and is always watching her.  It's so sweet to see them together.

5 months - last photo in Atlanta :(
6 months - we were in Colorado, so no chalkboard
7 months - at our apartment in California, taken a few days late since I was out of town

  1. He's so big! Hope his sleep settles down soon! And, C has all of his teeth and I have no idea when he got most of them. He didn't complain enough for me to make the mental connection to teething. Second kids!
