My parents' 40th anniversary is December 23. I wanted to do something for them to celebrate, but unfortunately we will not be in Pittsburgh for Christmas. So Ben and I decided to throw them a surprise party while we were both home for Thanksgiving. Then they would be even more surprised because it was a month early!
I am pleased to say the party was a success! My parents were TOTALLY surprised, which was great since I thought maybe they had an idea something was going on. My Aunt Maggie and Uncle Barry met my parents out for lunch and a movie, which got them out of the house for about 5 hours. That gave Ben, Joseph, and me time to set up. We picked up drinks, a cake, and balloons, and got to decorating the house. I had made 40 cards, each with a number 1 through 40, that had a fact about my parents corresponding to the number (e.g., 31 is the age of their daughter). It was hard coming up with something for every number, so I had to cheat and just put random facts on a few of them. I hung them with clothespins on strings around the dining room. I also printed a few photos of my parents throughout the years and displayed those throughout the house. Thankfully I chose to have the party catered, so we didn't have to worry about food, and all the catered food was delicious.
I think everyone had a really good time, and my parents seemed very happy. Congratulations, Mom and Dad! I am blessed to have such great parents!
