May Catch-up - Part 2

We started the third weekend in May with an Otter (our neighborhood playgroup) happy hour at the Chapmans' house.  They live just around the corner, so we love it when the happy hour is at their house.  We had a great time, as usual, although we learned that they are moving to New York in a few months.  Derrick got a great new job there.  We will be sad to see them go!

On Saturday, my friend Ali was in town from Denver for her wedding shower.  Sadly, I forgot to take any photos!  But I had a great time catching up with Ali and also seeing some old college friends I hadn't seen in a while.  The shower was in the afternoon, and then we went out to Barcelona in the evening for dinner.  She is getting married in Vermont in September, and we're really looking forward to it.

On Sunday, two of Lola's classmates, Lila and Colin, had a birthday party in Grant Park.  We also met up with Stephanie, Erik, and Ingrid briefly, who were in the neighborhood visiting the farmer's market.  Lola had a great time playing with her school friends - she smiled so big when she saw them on the playground.  And of course she loved the cookie cake.  Later that week at school, on their actual birthday, they had a water day.  We sent Lola to school in her swimsuit, and the kids played in water all morning.  She loved it.

The next weekend was Memorial Day weekend.  My mom arrived Saturday morning; she and my dad had been in Aruba vacationing, and she stopped in Atlanta on her way home to spend a week with us and watch Lola while her school was closed.  Joseph took Lola to the zoo to meet up with his coworker Mandie and her family, while I got a haircut and then picked up my mom.  Lola was very excited to see Grandma!  Although after seeing Diane earlier this month, she started calling my mom "Meemaw" instead of "Mama", which is what she used to call her.  Joseph and I went out to dinner that night at Lure to celebrate Kat's birthday, along with Matt, Jen, and Mark.  It was a fun night, and a rare night out with friends.  Sunday we decided to host an impromptu cookout, inviting a few neighborhood friends.  It turned out great, and we had a relaxing time.  Monday we just relaxed some more and didn't do anything major.

Tuesday I went to visit my friend Kelsey and meet her new daughter Lucia.  She was born on May 10, about 4 weeks early but she is doing great.  And she is adorable!

In health news, Lola had her first bout of diarrhea.  She got sent home from school early on Thursday, and then school was closed Friday and the whole following week.  Which was probably a good thing, since she had diarrhea almost the whole week and would've had to stay home from school anyway.  I felt so bad because it was obviously painful and she wouldn't eat or drink much.  We tried everything to get her hydrated - popsicles, Jello, Gatorade - but she didn't really take to any of it.  By the end of the week, she was luckily back to normal.  I guess it just takes some time to pass through her system.

Mom had a fun but exhausting week watching Lola.  Luckily I only made her cook us dinner once :) As always, it was a great help to have her here.  We were sad to see her go on Saturday, but I know she was looking forward to getting home after being away for three weeks.  After we dropped her off at the airport, we headed to the Turanos' for Parker's birthday party.

And that wraps up May!  Now let's see if I can get back to posting weekly...
