May Catch-up - Part 1

I severely neglected the blog during May.  We have been very busy, and I'm just too exhausted to write anything at night.  But I need to catch up now or I will never get back on track!

The first weekend in May we started the weekend by going to the Downs' house - their daughter Helena is in Lola's class.  We were paired together for teacher appreciation week, and Hallie, Helena's mom, came up with the great idea to make planters with herbs.  She bought all of the supplies and  had us over for pizza on Friday night to assemble them.  The girls helped some and seemed to enjoy it.  They put rocks in the bottoms of the planter and then added dirt  We all had a good time hanging out and getting to know each other.

That Saturday was my girls "staycation" trip at the Intercontinental.  We had traveled for weekend trips in the past, but it's getting too difficult logistically to make it work for everyone, so we decided on a one-night trip to a hotel in town.  We got nice rooms on the club level, so we had free food and drinks, which was great.  Sarah and I had lunch and pedicures before check-in, and then we met up with the rest of the girls at the hotel.  We had a leisurely afternoon by the pool (even though it was too cold in the shade to get in), and then we had cocktails in the lounge while watching the Kentucky Derby.  We headed out to Antica Posta for a delicious Italian dinner, and then we had some more drinks in the lounge before heading to bed (we all have young children, so sleep was a priority on this trip).  After a nice breakfast and slow morning, I headed home.  It was great to have some uninterrupted time with my girlfriends.

The following week Joseph's parents came into town Thursday afternoon.  They were driving from San Antonio, where our nephew Colin just had his first holy communion, to Atlanta for our niece Rachel's first holy communion.  They stayed with us Thursday and Friday to get some time with Lola.  We went to Music in the Meadow in Grant Park Thursday evening, and it was really nice.  A band played children's music and everyone just hung out and had a picnic.  Friday we just got take out and had a relaxing night at home.

Saturday morning Lola and I went to Hannah's 4th birthday party a Hippo Hopp, while Joseph and his parents went to some gardening stores.  It was Lola's first time at Hippo Hopp, and I think she enjoyed it.  She ran around a ton and mostly ignored the little kid section in favor of climbing the big kid obstacles.  She is a great climber!  Lola got her face painted for the first time, and of course she loved the cake.  Saturday afternoon we went to the first annual Grant Park BBQ festival.  We camped out by the stage to listen to some (mostly bad) music and ate some delicious barbecue.  Joe and Diane headed up to Julie's house for the night after we put Lola to bed.

Sunday was Mother's Day, and I got the special treat of sleeping in while Joseph took Lola to Publix for our weekly grocery run.  I got out of bed to find beautiful lilies and a present waiting for me - a new kindle paperwhite!  I was very excited, since my old kindle had broken.  Rachel's first communion was that morning, but we skipped the church part and headed up for the party around 1.  Julie had tons of delicious food, as usual, and we enjoyed hanging out with all of their family (Jake has 6 siblings, so it's a big crowd).
