Water aerobics was canceled AGAIN on Monday, much to my disappointment. I guess there's a leak in the pool at Highland Athletic Club. Hopefully they get it fixed before next week. I had been looking forward to class that night, so to substitute, I walked over to the Grant Park pool when I got home from work and did a little workout of my own. I felt kind of funny doing exercises while surrounded with the neighborhood parents and children, but I'm guessing they noticed my large belly and realized what I was doing.
Tuesday I had an appointment with the midwives. Joseph was able to come with me for the first time (to Intown Midwifery - he had been to our old OB a few times), and I'm happy he got to see the office and meet some of the people. The midwife we saw was Julie, and she was very nice. She answered some questions I had, and she also reassured me about my weight gain. I'm at 34 pounds gained now (four of which I gained in the last two weeks, which scared me), but she said it's normal for slender women to gain around 40 pounds. So that makes me feel better! Although I should still probably cut out some chocolate and ice cream from my diet :) Julie felt the baby and she's still head down, and her heart rate is great. She tried to get Joseph and me to feel the head, but neither of us could feel it, despite the fact that Julie was putting our hands exactly where the head was. Guess you need to have some practice for that!
We also visited Intown Pediatrics on Tuesday, as they had an open house. The practice has been recommended by both IM and several neighbors, and they're only about a mile from our house, so super convenient. We took a tour and spoke with one of the doctors for a while. He seemed very friendly, and the office was nice. I don't feel much like researching other options, so we'll use them as our pediatrician for now and if we don't like them, we can switch. But they seem like they'll be great. We did have one other recommendation for a doctor in Little Five Points, but unfortunately he is not accepting new patients.
This weekend we are meeting with Renee, our doula, to talk about my hopes for childbirth. So I'm planning to spend some time before then hashing out the details of my birth plan. Before I got pregnant, I had no idea there were so many things to consider! But I'm very glad I've learned about all of them and am able to make informed decisions.
