Trapold Visit Summer 2015

My parents came to visit for a week, both so that they could spend time with us and also so they could babysit while Lola's school was closed (they follow Atlanta Public Schools' calendar and take a break between summer and fall semesters).  It was so great to have them!  And Lola just seems to love them more and more every time they visit.  I love that she recognizes them when she sees them and gets so excited.

They got here late on Tuesday night, while I was still in Wichita, since Lola's school was closed on Wednesday.  They babysat on Wednesday while Joseph went to work, and then my dad picked me up at the airport in the afternoon.  My mom and Lola were on the porch when we got home, and I was very excited to see Lola (and my parents too)!  But she quickly said hi to me and then seemed more excited to see "Papa" when he got out of the car.

Thursday I worked from home since my partners were still in Wichita and I had to take Lola to the doctor's office.  She had been coughing a lot for about a week and sounded really congested, so we thought she might have strep.  Luckily she didn't, and the doctor said it was probably just a cold and would pass.

Friday I went into the office and my parents stayed home with Lola.  They went to the Dekalb Farmers Market to stock up on groceries for the rest of the visit.  Oh how I love having cooks and grocery shoppers visiting!  Friday evening we played euchre with my parents (and we had played Thursday as well).  Our friends Sarah and Ben introduced the game to us, and we really like it.  Plus it gives us something interactive to do with my parents.  My parents won on Thursday, and Joseph and I won on Friday.  We used to make fun of my mom (well, I guess we still do) because she keeps asking the rules over and over, but she did much better on this visit.

Saturday morning my parents, Lola, Lucy, and I took a long walk around the park while Joseph went to our rental house to mow the lawn.  When we headed out it was a nice temperature, but it was really hot by the time we got home.  We stopped briefly at the playground and let Lola run around.  After nap, we all went to the High Museum - Fulton County residents get in for free on the first Saturday of each month.  They had an exhibit by Mo Willems, a children's author/artist, that I thought Lola would like, but she didn't seem too interested.  She did love running around the galleries, though, and also playing in the spinning tops that were in the courtyard.  We went to Cameli's for pizza and then Morelli's for ice cream afterward.  This was our birthday celebration for Lola with my parents since they wouldn't be in town for her actual birthday party.

Sunday morning we walked to the Grant Park farmers market and had a nice snack.  My parents headed to Griffin, Georgia, around lunchtime to check out a retirement community there.  They really liked it, but they already put a deposit on a house in a retirement community in Pittsburgh, so they said they're going to stick with that (bummer).  Joseph, Lola, and I just hung around the house and did some closet cleaning.  We had to make room for my old dollhouse that my parents brought down.  My maternal grandparents made it for me when I was a little girl, and I always loved it.  I'm looking forward to seeing Lola play with it in a few years.

Monday my mom took Lola to the zoo in the morning.  She said they rode the train and went to the petting zoo.  Lola loved the train and told me about when I got home from work.  That night we played our last game of euchre as a tiebreaker.  It was a close game, but Joseph and I won in the end.

Tuesday Lola and I went to the Nest to see her new classroom and meet her new teachers.  They moved half of the old toddler class up to the preschool class, so Lola is now one of the oldest in the toddler class instead of the youngest.  They also moved the toddler class to a different room.  Lola was pretty shy during the visit, but she seemed to warm up by the end.

Tuesday night we took my parents to dinner at Gunshow to thank them for babysitting.  I had been wanting to try it for a while - they serve their food like dim sum, where the chefs walk around and present you with their dishes.  You can decide if you want to try it or not.  We tried almost one of everything, including the desserts.  Everything was delicious!

Wednesday morning my parents headed out for the long drive home.  We were sad to see them go.  But it was a great visit, as usual!
