Super Bowl Weekend
We had a fun-filled few days for Super Bowl weekend. We started things off Friday evening with a happy hour play date for our Grant Park playgroup, the Otters. It was at the Chapmans' house, just around the corner. Lola and I went around 5:30, and Joseph showed up around 7. We had drinks and snacks, and the kids ran around playing. Most of the children were up past their bedtime, so they started melting down and we left around 7:30. We love the playgroup - it's so nice to hang out with neighbors that have children Lola's age.
Saturday morning was Anna's fourth birthday party. I can't believe she's four! I remember when she was born. It was at Jump Jump, a play place in Roswell. Lola had never been to a place like that, so I was excited to see what she thought. There was a toddler area with a small tunnel and slide, plus some rocking toys. Then there was a huge play structure with a ball pit, lots of tunnels and ladders, and a very tall slide. Of course she wanted to go in that, so she did (with our supervision). She rode down the big slide in Joseph's lap and loved it. After playing, there was lunch and cake. Then we headed home, and Lola passed out in the car almost immediately. Surprisingly, she let me transfer her to her crib when we got home, and she slept another hour.
After naptime, we went to the Atlanta Silverbacks field for a rugby match between Old White and the Renegades. Joseph retired from rugby in 2010, but his old team, Old White, asked him to play in an alumni match. Lola and I went along to cheer him on. Unfortunately toddlers don't generally like to sit still, so I didn't get to watch much of the match. We walked around the stands, played in the car for a while, and played on the soccer field. Joseph's team lost, but he had fun playing and catching up with old friends. So much so that he's actually signed on to be an assistant coach, so he'll be going to practices once a week and sometimes games on the weekends. We grabbed a quick dinner after the game and headed home for bed (another late bedtime for Lola).
Sunday was the Super Bowl. As per tradition, we forced Lane to host a small gathering. There were two playmates for Lola - Parker, Abby and Stephan's daughter, and Abby, Lauren and Alex's daughter (they are old neighbors of Lane's). All three girls are within 6 months of each other, so they got along pretty well. We had lots of great snacks, good beer, and some football watching. It was also nice to catch up with Lane - we rarely see him anymore. Jeff and Meghan came too and brought their super cute new puppy, who had just broken his leg. The girls seemed like they were getting tired, but then they got a second wind and made a game of running back and forth in Lane's kitchen - it was hilarious (video below). We had planned to only stay until 7, but Lola seemed to be having fun, so we pushed it and stayed until 9 - definitely the latest we've kept her up in a long, long time. It was just a five minute drive home, so we got her home and in bed pretty quickly. She went to sleep almost instantly.
