Weekly Update - November 15

The week started off badly, with Lola's school being closed on Monday due to a power outage.  All the storms had caused a huge tree to fall down on Moreland Avenue, taking out a large power line.  Joseph called me after he attempted to drop off Lola, so I turned around and came home.  I was supposed to take Lola to the doctor's on Tuesday for her flu shot, but I called and they said I could come in then, so I took her and at least got that taken care of.  She got the mist instead of the shot, but I think she may have preferred the shot - she did not like having something sprayed in her nose.

When we got home, I asked Lola which of her teachers she would like to come over and babysit.  She said Kalei, so I texted her and luckily she was available to come over from 11:30 to 4:30.  So I got some work done while Kalei watched Lola.  She took a long nap, and then they went to the park to meet up with Ginny, who was babysitting Lila.  It was good for her to get out of the house after being cooped up all weekend because of the rain.

Tuesday night I had a meeting with the committee for Lola's school's fundraiser, the Nest Fest.  We just had to wrap up some final details for the event on Saturday.  The rest of the week was pretty uneventful.

Saturday morning I went to water aerobics, which was nice but also tiring.  I took a nap while Lola napped (which I do almost every weekend day now), and Joseph worked in the yard, happy to have a weekend without rain.  Then I got ready for the Nest Fest.

The Nest Fest is a party with food, music, and a silent auction.  This year it was at Eventide Brewery, which is a new brewery in Grant Park.  It was a very cool space.  For the auction, all of the parents at the school get donations from local businesses, and we auction them off to raise funds for the school, which is a non-profit.  I volunteered to be on the committee this year, and I was in charge of tracking the donations.  It wasn't too difficult, but there was a lot of data entry and preparation involved, so a little more work than I expected.  But I was happy to help, and the founders and all the teachers were very appreciative.

Joseph dropped me off at 6 to start setting up the auction, and then headed home to get himself ready and drop Lola off at the Nest, which was hosting babysitting for the evening.  The rest of the committee and I got things set up pretty easily, and then people started arriving.  I was amazed at how  many people showed up!  I think we had over 100.  Last year there were only 40-50, so it was a huge improvement (and financially beneficial, since we charged for entry).  The evening flew by, between me chatting with friends and monitoring the auction.  At the end of the night, I helped check out the purchases.  Joseph and I ended up buying a few things ourselves - a fire pit, a massage gift certificate, a cutting board, and some artwork.  All in all, I think the event was a success.  I had fun working on it, even if it was a bit more work than expected, and I plan to volunteer again next year.

Sunday morning Lola stayed in bed until 9!  If only I had been able to take advantage.  I've been having a tough time falling back asleep when I wake up in the middle of the night, and I woke up around 5 and couldn't fall back asleep until 7 or so.  But I did at least get to stay in bed until 8:30.  I think Lola slept so late because she had a tiring night at the Nest the night before (she was asleep when we picked her up but had a tough time going back to sleep once we got home).  Also, we think she's getting her last molars in - she's been gnawing on her hand a lot and complaining about her ear hurting.

Sunday afternoon we met up with the Brunes, Edwardses, and Pirrottas at the PDK Airport playground.  It's a small playground right at the airport, so you can watch the planes take off and land.  We saw a huge blimp right when we arrived, which was cool.  Lola played for a little bit, but she was kind of fussy and it was cold.  Then we all went to dinner at Verde - a group of 8 adults and 7 children!  But I think the kids did pretty well for the most part.  Lola was definitely not feeling well by the end, though.  We took her temperature when we got home and it was 102.7, so now we're not sure if it's just teething or if she could possibly be sick. We gave her some medicine and put her to bed, and we'll see how she's doing in the morning.

I took zero photos this week!  I'm not sure what is happening to me.  I wish I had taken some of the Nest Fest last night.  Oh, well.
