Easter Weekend

Our Easter weekend was supposed to be a fun-filled weekend, but our plans were derailed by work and sickness.  We were going to start the weekend by going to game night at the Brunes' house, along with the Edwardses, and Lola was SO excited to have a sleepover with Hannah and Anna.  But unfortunately Joseph's work scheduled a last-minute release for Friday night at 8, so he would have to work for at least a few hours.  Plus, Lola threw up Thursday before bed and then again in the middle of the night, so we didn't want to expose anyone to her sickness.

Thomas' school was closed on Good Friday, and since Lola was sick, she stayed home too.  We had a pretty pleasant day at home, leaving just to take a long walk around the park and go to Publix.  Lola seemed to be doing well.  She was acting like herself except that she didn't eat much and she took a three-hour nap.

Joseph's work turned into an all night affair, and he worked until mid-afternoon on Saturday (barely sleeping).  Luckily he took a break in the morning when Jake, Becca, and Reagan came over to drop off our Girl Scout cookies (Julie and Rachel were at an orthodontist appointment).  Lola loved seeing her cousins!  They played outside for a bit, and then went upstairs.  Becca wanted to hold Thomas and did such a great job watching him while I got ready.  I thanked her, and she said, "That's what older cousins are for."  She is so sweet!  She will be 10 next month, which I can't believe.

We were able to make it to the Grant Park egg hunt Saturday morning, despite the dreary weather.  I was volunteering since Thomas' playgroup was in charge this year, and I got to carry around a bag of eggs and give them to sad children that didn't find any eggs.  Luckily there were not too many.  Lola got a few eggs but wasn't super into the hunt.  We had planned to picnic with our friends from Lola's playgroup, but we canceled that due to the rain and just went home for lunch.

Saturday evening we had planned on going to a birthday party for Ryn, one of Lola's playgroup friends, who was turning three.  But I got hit with Lola's stomach bug in the afternoon.  I started feeling weak, and then queasy, and then just awful and pretty much incapacitated (I won't go into details).  Joseph and Lola were still planning to go to the party, but then Lola started acting sad and sick again, so we all just stayed home.  Joseph took care of putting the kids to bed while I dealt with illness.  My friend Kolbi was a saint and brought me some activated charcoal, which I had never taken but she said worked wonders.  And it did!  While I was still weak on Sunday, the nausea was pretty much gone.  I took it easy most of the day and tried to get my strength back while Joseph watched the kids.

So it was not the best holiday weekend, but at least I got to spend it with my husband and kids.  We didn't even put out an Easter basket for Lola, but she didn't really know to expect one.  I'll do better next year!
