Lola's school is wonderful and does a lot of fields trips to get the kids out and about. They frequently go for walks around the neighborhood, since those are easy to handle, as well as small group trips (3-4 kids). But for a field trip at the beginning of March, they decided to take the whole class (10 kids) on a trip to Peachtree Center to see the very long escalator. A big endeavor!
Since I was still on maternity leave, I volunteered to chaperone, figuring I could just wear Thomas. It was a great trip, and very well planned by the teachers, so everything went smoothly. There were 3 parents and 3 teachers, so we had plenty of hands to hold the little ones.
We walked about two blocks from the school to the Marta bus stop at Moreland and Ormewood. The bus picked us up, and we rode it to the Inman Park Marta train station. Then we rode to the train to Five Points, where we transferred to the northbound train and rode it one stop to Peachtree Center. After departing the station, we saw the loooong escalator up to Peachtree Street. The kids were very excited! Lola has been scared of escalators in the past, but she got right on it. We rode the escalator up, walked down Peachtree Street to the other Marta entrance, and then rode a different long escalator back down into the Marta station. Then we headed back to the school. So the trip was basically just exploring a bunch of modes of transportation, which the kids love. Lola really seemed to enjoy herself, and I had fun hanging out with the kids.
