29 Weeks

I was 29 weeks on Monday.  Only 11 more to go!  Assuming baby girl arrives on time, of course.

I heard back from the nurse on Wednesday about my blood work from last week.  Unfortunately I did not pass the Glucose Challenge Test (GCT), so I had to go back yesterday morning to take the Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT).  This time it was a drink with a higher sugar content, and I had to fast starting at midnight the night before.  The nurse took my blood before I drank the glucose, one hour after, and two hours after.  They'll analyze the three samples to determine if I have gestational diabetes.  I should hear back by Monday.  I'm crossing my fingers that I pass!  I'm happy that at least this time I did not feel faint or nauseous, just a little weird from no food and lots of sugar.  They let me sit in a room with a recliner and the lights off, so that was a lot more comfortable than the waiting room.  If it's determined that I do have GD, I would just have to meet with a nutritionist and follow a restricted diet.  It doesn't cause any harm to me or the baby; it just increases the chances of the baby becoming too big.

I also have low iron and low vitamin D, so the nurse suggested supplements.  I'll start taking those as soon as I buy some this weekend, and hopefully my stats will improve.  They'll redo the blood work in about two months.

I've been trying to walk more and do yoga more frequently, in an effort to get my body in shape before giving birth.  I think it's been helping, as I've been feeling a bit better.  And I didn't gain any weight between last week's appointment and this week's appointment, so that's good.  I'm already within the recommended weight gain range of 25-35 pounds, so I was worried about gaining too much more since I still have 11 weeks to go.

Yesterday I also went to my first chiropractor visit.  I had been thinking about going for years since I've always had back pain (likely due to sitting at a computer all day and frequently flying), but I never got around to it.  The pregnancy finally motivated me to seek out a chiropractor.  My friend Stephanie (also pregnant) has been going for months and said it has helped a ton, and my midwife also recommended it to help with the aches I've been starting to have.  Thankfully my insurance covers 20 visits a year, so I only have to pay my copay.  I was able to find a chiropractor that accepts my insurance and is trained in prenatal services, specifically the Webster technique.  It was a little weird to have him move my body around and crack my back, but I am feeling more limber now.  I'm going back next week and will probably go once a week for the rest of my pregnancy.

On Tuesday, the first of my pregnant friends had her baby!  Abby delivered a beautiful baby girl named Parker Loving.  I am so happy for Abby, Stephan, and Parker.  Abby also goes to Intown Midwifery and was using Hypnobabies, so I'm interested to hear how the birth went.  Hopefully she can provide some advice :)  Plus I'm excited to meet little Parker!
